| An oval platter from the Burdett Coutts Service.
Well what can I say about this beautiful example of Swansea Porcelain.
W D John (Swansea Porcelain) has dedicated three pages to the Burdett Coutts Service, in them he states that it must have been the most expensive of all services produced at Swansea, ordered by Thomas Coutts ,the most renowned private banker of the period, from Mortlocks, the London agents for the Swansea manufactory, and was intended for the magnificent entertainments following Coutts second marriage in 1818 to the actress Harriett Mellon. On page 48 of W D Johns Swansea Porcelain he states that Illustration 39b, shows one of the largest oval dishes 18 1/4" across, which reveals the attractiveness of this famous service which is housed in the National Museum of Wales Cardiff. There is one in the Glyn Vivian art Gallery Swansea, And the third is in a private collection in the U S A . Well here is the opportunity to own the fourth, this being just over 18 1/2 inches
It has been professionally restored
